PARK CITY, UTAH (Jan. 22, 2013)   Ken Block has a history of making huge moves in his racing career, but this one might be the biggest of all.

Today, Block opened the doors to a new, state-of-the-art race shop built near his home in Park City, Utah. The 12,000-square-foot building, which features 17 recycled shipping containers in its construction, also shows off a brand new team name: Hoonigan Racing Division, replacing the Monster World Rally Team name that Block has carried since 2010.

“When setting out to design the Hoonigan Racing Division Headquarters, I wanted to build a fun and inspirational creative space that would not only reset the industry standard for a motorsports facility, but also have a place that rivaled the modern workspaces of top ad agencies,” Block said in a release. “I need a place where our whole team—from the marketing staff to the technicians—can be inspired and enjoy working in everyday.

“So aside from the standard office needs, we made sure to build in some fun; from a ping pong table to a full entertainment area with its own bar. But, I also wanted the other side of the headquarters—the workshop—to have the feel and functionality of a World Rally Championship-level facility like M-Sport or Prodrive. I think we achieved all of my goals with this facility!”

The result is a shop divided evenly between creative office space and a race workshop. The office side of HRD’s headquarters is built for up to 25 employees in separate departments for marketing and administration.

Relics of Block’s illustrious career are also present all around the shop. The snow tracks from Block’s Snowkhana video, as well as the hood from his accident at New Hampshire last year, are present, while firesuits from years past also line the walls. A fully functional, three-screen race simulator is also on-site, equipped with the DiRT series of computer games.

The two-day launch program will continue on Wednesday, January 23, when Block unveils the new livery for his No. 43 Ford Fiesta and a schedule of events.
