Doran Posts Fastest Time in Global Rallycross Seeding at X Games Foz do Iguacu

FOZ DO IGUACU, BRAZIL (April 20, 2013) — With a lap time of 39.007 seconds, Liam Doran, 2011 X Games Rally Car Racing Gold Medalist, posted the fastest time in seeding at X Games Foz do Iguacu, the first Global Rallycross event of the season.
“This is a big deal for me,” said Doran. “We’ve all been here for a long time hanging around, and just had anxiety on how it will actually pan out. So I’m really really happy to have done that. We’re in first place, you can’t do any better than that.”
Doran was followed on the charts by Scott Speed, making his Global Rallycross debut in the Star Car for OMSE. Speed’s best lap was 39.047 seconds, just four hundredths of a second off of Doran’s mark.
“I’m completely amazed that we were able to pick up the learning curve so quickly,” said Speed. “Huge thanks to Andreas and everyone here at OMSE. Without those guys’ advice and help, for sure we’d have a slower learning curve. I’m just pumped that we were able to pull it off and put out a good lap when it mattered.”
Two-time defending Global Rallycross champion Tanner Foust, newcomer Nelson Piquet Jr., and 2012 Global Rallycross runner-up Brian Deegan rounded out the top five, providing a balance between experience and inexperience at the front of the pack.
“It was a great day in qualifying,” said Colin Dyne, Global Rallycross CEO. “The order’s mixed up, there are fast cars all over the place. We’ve got new guys in the front, old guys in the front, new guys in the middle, and old guys in the middle, so I think it’s a nice mix-up of the drivers.”
