LOS ANGELES, CA (April 24, 2013) — Liam Doran scored the fastest time in seeding at X Games Foz do Iguacu last weekend in a Citroen DS3. But the 2011 X Games Rally Car Racing gold medalist is all about the idea of constantly making improvements, which is why he’ll forgo that car in favor of a MINI John Cooper Works RX built by none other than the legendary Prodrive operation.

Doran will make his debut in the car at X Games Barcelona on the weekend of May 18-19. He plans to drive the car for the rest of the Global Rallycross season.

“It’s basically a World Rally car, bringing all the technology from World Rally to rallycross,” said Doran. “It’s a different ballgame completely, because it’s not all about muscle and power, it’s more about the technical ability of the chassis and the suspension.

“I’m really excited to get out and drive it, to see what it can do, because in testing it’s been really fast. It’s basically a converted World Rally car against a purpose-built rallycross car.”

Founded in 1984, Prodrive has built cars for manufacturers like Subaru, Ford, and Aston Martin in various disciplines from rally to sports car racing, and even spent three seasons managing British American Racing in Formula 1. It won three World Rally Championships with Subaru in 1995, 2001, and 2003.
