Rain Forces Cancellation of Global Rallycross at X Games Barcelona

The Global Rallycross event at X Games Barcelona scheduled
for Sunday, May 19 was canceled due to heavy rain that created
adverse track conditions. Despite the continuous efforts of track
workers through the afternoon, it was determined that the damage
caused to the track was irreparable in time to contest the event.
The track had been prepared overnight by the series’ staging crew,
who worked continuously to convert Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys
from a motocross track to a rallycross track. Drivers walked the
track and were prepared to compete, but rain began to fall shortly
before cars began initial practice sessions. Two practice sessions
were held, one comprised of five cars and the other of seven,
before a red flag was displayed. Track conditions were determined
unsuitable for driver safety reasons. Global Rallycross remains
committed to a nine-race 2013 schedule. The series will be making
an announcement shortly about a make-up event.
